Philae: Mario Galaxy-like gravity playground
A Mario Galaxy camera: the LookAhead tool
In April 2019 I started on the camera, the other half of a Mario Galaxy-like game. On small planets the ground curves away under the player, so the camera can't just follow from behind: it has to look ahead, toward where the player is going, while staying readable when gravity changes.
This video shows the LookAhead tool in the Unity editor, used to set up and tune that behaviour directly in the Scene view, with the game view next to it.
About the project
Philae is a Mario Galaxy-like character controller (3C), with a far more complex physics system.
For now, it is only a playground with a lot of gravity testing and experimentation. Warning: the camera is temporary, so I suggest that people prone to simulation sickness avoid playing or watching for now.
The project started during Global Game Jam 2019; I then chose to continue it to improve the physics system.
