Math is fun: demonstrating vector addition with physics

Student & OtherDateNov 2016

How to demonstrate AB + AC = AD with physics

Physics drives the convergence between geometry and algebra.

These are prototypes of a first "dynamic pedagogical machine", simulating an original physical experiment devised by a professor to experimentally demonstrate Chasles' relation and the law of vector addition.

This law is usually, and wrongly, presented as an artificial, ad hoc axiom. Arbitrarily parachuted in by mathematics textbooks, it has baffled generations of understandably intimidated students.
