Lock And Place: Unity level design toolkit

Lock And Place
About the project
Improve your level design workflow and drastically speed up placing props on a terrain or any kind of surface. It also enables quick level design iteration for planetoid games, by letting the Scene view camera rotate relative to your current selection.
The Placer
The Placer lets you quickly place a prop, or any kind of GameObject, on the terrain and in your level.
- Select a GameObject and press N (customizable), or click the new button in the Unity toolbar, then move your mouse around and place it wherever you want on the terrain.
- Choose the object's rotation with the mouse scroll wheel.
- Change its offset from the ground by holding Shift.
The Locker
The second feature is a Scene view camera Locker: when you lock onto a GameObject, the Scene view camera follows it and rotates relative to its up direction.
There are several ways to lock a GameObject:
- select it and press Shift + L or Shift + F;
- drag it into the new field in the Unity toolbar (make sure the toolbar is enabled in the preferences);
- double-click it, in the Scene view or in the Hierarchy.
Press Escape to exit the tool in use.
Settings
Every option and toolbar setting is available by right-clicking the new buttons in the Unity toolbar, or in:
- Unity 2018.3 and newer: Edit > Project Settings > Lock In SceneView and Edit > Project Settings > Object Placer
- older versions of Unity: Edit > Preferences > Lock In SceneView and Edit > Preferences > Object Placer
